Walking Through the Stories 2 - Lesson 3 - "The Power of Words" How are you using your words? Remember that they have the power to bless or destroy! ![]() Walking Through the Stories 2 -- Lesson 2-- "Jacob, Esau and the Birthright" The focus of this week is on the birthright and what it means to us today! ![]() Walking Through the Stories 2 -- Lesson 1 -- "Isaac" This week we will be delving in to Genesis 24 and the finding of a bride for Isaac. What a rich story! ![]() Walking Through the Stories 2 -- filler lesson -- "Transformation" This is a 'filler' week as we start out a new year. God wants to transform us and it is possible. . ![]() Walking Through the Stories -- Lesson 11 -- "Abraham and Isaac" This story has incredible depth and meaning. It also has some amazing parallels to the story of Jesus! This is the final lecture for this semester. The new study will resume on January 19, 2012! ![]() Walking Through the Stories -- Lesson 10 - "Abraham and Sarah" Sarah's life teaches us much about God's redeeming work and confirms that our past does not have to define our future. ![]() Walking Through the Stories -- Lesson 9 -- "Abraham and Hagar" God teaches great things about Himself through the story of Hagar! ![]() Walking Through the Stories -- Lesson 8 -- "Abraham: Covenants: God is a Covenant God and He demonstrates that in the life of Abram! If you are having trouble accessing last week's lesson, I apologize. We are working to correct the problem! Check back! ![]() Walking Through the Stories -- Lesson 7 -- "Abraham Intro" With this lecture we kick off a 5 week session on Abraham. It will be a wonderful time of study about this very faithful man of God and those living around him! Remember to print out the note sheet to use during the lecture. ![]() Walking Through the Stories -- Lesson 6 -- "Noah's Obedience" Noah could have made so many excuses. Since he walked with God, he chose obedeince instead! (The second homework link is actually the lecture note sheet.) ![]() Walking Through the Stories -- Lesson 5 -- "Cain and Abel" Today we look at lessons learned from Cain and Abel. Unfortunately mankind is still struggling with the same issues! ![]() Walking Through the Stories -- Lesson 4 -- "Adam's Turn" There were some eternal consequences to Adam and Eve's disobedience. This week the focus will be on Adam! ![]() Walking Through the Stories -- Lesson 3 --"Eve -- What happened?" Eve was deceived by the crafty serpent. These are lessons that we can learn from her time in the garden. ![]() Walking Through the Stories -- Lesson 2 -- "God Spoke" Creation is a miracle that God spoke in to existance! It was the beginning of a great and wonderful love story of which we get to be a part! (I also added a new blog post! :-) ![]() Walking Through the Stories -- Lesson 1-- "God: Who is He?" In this first lecture in the series "Walking Through the Stories" we will spend time studying some of the scriptural truths about God. ![]() Ezra/Nehemiah -- Lesson 10 -- "Silent but still Working" In this largely historical lecture we will see that even though God was not speaking through His prophets, He was still VERY much at work. ![]() Ezra/Nehemiah -- Lesson 9 -- "Lather, Rinse, Repeat" Nehemiah addresses the sin cycle that the exiles have once again fallen in to! ![]() Ezra/Nehemiah -- Lesson 8 -- "Everyone has a Part" Nehemiah did not accomplish God's task by himself. While their roles may have been small, they were significant. ![]() Ezra/Nehemiah -- Lesson 7 -- "The Simplicity of God's Call" While God's task for Nehemiah was big, there was a simplicity to it! Nehemiah had his priorities in order. ![]() Ezra/Nehemiah -- Lesson 6 -- "God IS the Promis Keeper" God's character is consistent all the way through scripture....He IS the Promise Keeper! ![]() Ezra/Nehemian -- Lesson 5 -- "Ezra: the man of God" Ezra is such an incredible example! His life was simple and he was devoted to 3 things. ![]() Ezra/Nehemiah -- Lesson 4 -- "Looking at the Prophets" Haggai and Zechariah were men with a message from God. They challenged and encouraged God's people. ![]() Ezra/Nehemiah -- Lesson 3 -- "The Going gets Tough" The exiles begin building and things go smoothly at first, but then they face opposition. ![]() Ezra/Nehemian -- Lesson 2 -- "God Stirs..." Ezra chapter 1 shows that when God stirs and people act. At the end of the lecture add Cyrus to the main character handout and list what you learned about him. ![]() Ezra/Nehemiah -- Lesson 1 -- "Setting the Stage" This lesson sets the stage for Ezra and Nehemiah. We must understand the historical background in order to be able to fully grasp what we will be studying in the weeks to come. ![]() Ezra and Nehemiah: God's Word This lecture is an important reminder of the treasure that we have in God's Word. ![]() Judges -- Lesson 11 -- "What's Faith got to do with it?" Living by faith requires listening and obeying. Hebrews 11 gives a wonderful legacy of heroes who did just that! THIS IS THE LAST LECTURE IN THE JUDGES STUDY! ![]() Judges -- Lesson 10 -- "Samson -- pt 2" Samson, a man upon whom the Spirit of the Lord rested, often looked no different than the pagans around him. There are lessons to be learned from him! ![]() Judges -- Lesson 9 -- "Samson part 1" In spite of Samson's weaknesses and failures, God had chosen him from birth for a specific purpose. ![]() Judges -- Lesson 8 -- "Jephthah" Jephthah's story is difficult, but God has lessons to teach through it! Good intentions are not always "God - intentions" and we must carefully filter them through His Word. ![]() Judges -- Lesson 7 -- "Gideon part 2" Gideon's seemingly insignificant request brings about devastating consequences. He goes from victory to defeat because he loses his focus. ![]() Judges -- Lesson 6 -- "Gideon" Our Sunday School hero, Gideon faced a major struggle that is common to many of us. Just as God met Gideon, He will meet us as well. ![]() Judges -- Lesson 5 -- "Deborah and Jael" Deborah and Jael are great examples of women who stepped out in obedience to do what God called them to do, regardless. ![]() Judges -- Lesson 4 -- "Ehud, the Benjamite" Slowing down again to study the details and learn lessons from Ehud's victory. ![]() Judges -- Lesson 3 -- "3 Strikes of Sin" The COI blantantly disobey God's instruction and God becomes angry over their sin. Sin creates separation, but God in His great love sends a bridge. (Print the 'additional' document.) ![]() Judges -- Lesson 2 -- "Understanding the Times" In order to to better understand the book of Judges, we must understand the times in which it takes place. ![]() Judges -- Lesson 1 -- "Setting the Stage" In this lesson, we walk through scripture and set the stage for Judges. We get to see God's hand in bringing His people to their land. ![]() Roaming Through Romans -- Lesson 11 -- "What do I do?" Studying the progression of Romans 12. It starts with vertical communion with God and extends to horizontal application. This is the last lecture in the Roaming Through Romans study. ![]() Roaming Through Romans -- Lesson 10 -- "My Rights" As believers we do have rights, but they are not the ones that the world promotes. This lecture will focus on Romans 14. ![]() Roaming Through Romans -- Lesson 9 -- "What about Suffering?" Suffering is going to happen and for a believer it is a positive. Scripture is clear that God intends it to bring about His work in our lives. ![]() Roaming Through Romans -- Lesson 8 -- "Spirit Filled Life" There is a constant war within -- sinful nature vs. spirit controlled nature. It seems that often the sinful side wins out. Who is the Holy Spirit and how we allow Him control are central to this lecture. ![]() Roaming Through Romans -- Lesson 7 -- "God's Chosen People" This lesson will cover a very basic overview of Romans 9-11 and the Jewish people. Remember to print out the homework and study sheet before listening. ![]() Roaming Through Romans -- Lesson 6 -- "Those 2 Words" This lecture will address the issue of 'foreknowledge' and predestination. The basics of Calvinism/Arminianism will be presented. However, the study goes on to address an issue that is of greater importance. ![]() Roaming Through Romans -- Lesson 5 -- "The Gift" Through Adam came sin, but through Jesus Christ came the indescribable gift! ![]() Roaming Through Romans -- Lesson 4 -- "Stopping it before it starts" There is a war being waged in our minds. We need to stop it before it starts. ![]() Roaming Through Romans -- Lesson 3 -- "Now let's talk about Man" From the highest of high.....talking about God. To the lowest of low...talking about man. This is a study about the depravity of man. ![]() Roaming Through Romans -- Lesson 2 -- "Let's Talk about God" It is impossible to cover the topic of God in one lecture. The goal of this week and next is to set up who God is and who we are in comparison. ![]() Roaming Through Romans -- Lesson 1 -- "Introduction" As we kick off this study it is important to understand some of the background. This study will help set up a foundation for what is to come. ![]() Roaming Through Romans -- "No more Resolutions..." Rather than focusing on resolutions as we start this new year and decade, let's allow God to transform us. That is His desire. ![]() "Wise women are clothed in humility." -- Lesson 12 This is the final lesson in the wise woman study. We close with the topic of humility that comes from wisdom. ![]() Wise women choose gratitude. - Lesson 11 Gratitude is a choice. Mary inspite of difficult cirmcumstances, chose to be grateful. We can too! ![]() "Wise women persist in prayer." -- Lesson 10 Have you ever had questions about prayer? In this session we look at 6 common questions that are asked about prayer. The answers will come directly from scripture! ![]() Wise women reach out." -- Lesson 9 Lessons learned from Tabitha on touching the lives of others. ![]() "Wise women heed instruction." -- Lesson 8 God gives us instruction in His word and He puts wise people in our path...for our protection, not oppression. ![]() "Wise women share what they know." -- Lesson 7 Lois and Eunice had an incredible impact in Timothy's life. They shared what they knew about scripture. ![]() "Wise women manage their time." -- Lesson 6 Time management is the key to this week's lesson. Wise women learn how to eliminate time wasters. ![]() "Wise women are like Girl Scouts" -- Lesson 5 The Proverbs 31 woman is meant to challenge and inspire us, not overwhelm us. Enjoy the simplicity of it as we study! ![]() Wise women speak differently." -- Lesson 4 As wise women, our speech should be different from those around us. Naomi shows us some ways we speak differently. ![]() "Wise women tame their tongues." -- Lesson 3 The tongue has the ability to destroy. Scripture is very clear. In this lesson we will study Jezebel and her example of 'what not to say'. ![]() "Wise women listen and act." -- Lesson 2 Abigail is a wonderful example of a wise woman who listens and acts! Lots of great lessons to be learned from her story! ![]() "Wise Women Seek God" -- Lesson 1 God gives wisdom; therefore if we desire to be wise women we must seek Him first! This is not a new truth, but we frequently let other things compete for His place. Lectures preceed homework, so listen to them first! ![]() Who is this Jesus? -- Lesson 11 -- The Returning King Jesus IS coming again and we must live ready for His return! This is the final session of the series! A short series on Wisdom will be posted in a few weeks. ![]() Who is this Jesus? -- Lesson 10 -- The Scrificial Lamb We now live under grace....not the law. Jesus the sacrificial lamb gave Himself for us. Let's really think about that! ![]() Who is this Jesus? -- Lesson 9 -- Man of Miracles Jesus, the Man of Miracles, is going to perform a miracle in our lives. We just need to accept the call to discipleship. ![]() Who is this Jesus? -- Lesson 8 -- Healer As Jesus heals the leper, He teaches us valuable lessons. He teaches us about the actions and words that should follow when we are moved with compassion. ![]() Who is this Jesus? -- Lesson 7 -- Teacher Jesus taught about so many things but tonight we are going to see how He taught truth about Himself when presented with human doubts. ![]() Who is this Jesus? -- Lesson 6 -- Speaker of Truth...in Love Jesus spoke the truth in love. Those who received it experienced life changing results. Today we will study how to speak the truth in love and what can happen when we choose to recieve truth spoken in love. ![]() Who is this Jesus? -- Lesson 5 -- A Servant In John 13 Jesus demonstrates the characteristics of a true servant. They are clear and simple...though not always easy! ![]() Who is this Jesus? -- Lesson 4 -- A Storyteller Jesus used stories to teach great truths and He wants to use our stories as well. We need to be ready! ![]() Who is this Jesus? -- Lesson 3 -- Man of Prayer Jesus was a man of prayer and offers some clear teachings on the subject. In this lesson we will study 2 "don'ts" and 1 "do" ![]() Who is this Jesus? -- Lesson 2 -- Fulfillment of Prophecy God defies logic and uses unexpected people, in unexpected places, and in unexpected forms to fulfill prophecy. ![]() Who is this Jesus? -- Lesson 1 -- "God Made Flesh" God became flesh! That should wow us! The one and only God chose to put on skin and walk among us! ![]() Anna -- "Waiting for Jesus" There are wonderful lessons to be learned from Anna, as we too wait to see Jesus! Please print out handout before listening to the podcast ![]() Journey Through Faith -- Lesson 10 -- "Running the Race" We have studied the great heroes of faith in chapter 11. Their example help to surround us and urge us on as we run the race God has put before us! This is the final session. ![]() Journey Through Faith -- Lesson 9 -- "The Participation Factor" Though Joshua and Rahab came from VERY different backgrounds, God gave them the opportunity to participate in His great plan. You too have been given the opportunity to participate. Are you making excuses? ![]() Journey Through Faith -- Lesson 8 -- "Giving a Blessing" Isaac, Jacob and Joseph gave blessings and pictured a positive future for those they loved. We can do the same! ![]() Journey Through Faith -- Lesson 7 -- "The Persecution of God's Church" Around the world,our brothers and sisters are being persecuted. God's Word addresses this issue and what our response should be. There will not be another lecture until after the homework on Joseph. ![]() Journey Through Faith -- Lesson 6 -- "Leadership 101...God's Way" We could spend weeks talking about Moses and leadership, but in this session we will study just 4 basic lessons that come from his early days as leader of the Children of Israel. ![]() Journey Through Faith -- Lesson 5 -- "Trust....and Surrender" As we study this week we will see how trust and surrender are intricately connected in a life of faith. The definition of faith is something that we often find nebulous and difficult to express. Looking back may actually be the best way to understand and explain it. He wants to hear prayers offered from a simple and humble heart....just like the boy, Samuel. (I Samuel 3:1-10) ![]() James - Lesson 12 - "Ordinary People" God is looking for ordinary women willing to be "recklessly abandoned, totally surrendered, and separated for one purpose..." ![]() James - Lesson 11 - "Amazing Parallels Between James and Micah" God's Word always has been and continues to be applicable....amazing parallels between James and Micah. ![]() James - Lesson 10 - "Do You Know the Plans He has for You?" Scripture tell us that God has a wonderful plan for our lives. I encourage you to dig deeper. Go beyond the homework. It is short, but the message has been and will continue to be an intensely relevant challenge to all who want to be effective Christians and purposeful church members.
